eOsphere, formerly Vexcel UK, was established in 2001 and supports complete systems; ranging from ground station technology and data links, to World leading expertise in satellite image analysis. Activities include the development and provision of near real time SAR-derived sea ice products for national ice services.
Recent orders include those for the newly-designed MODIS ground station, VxEOS; the first being delivered in Indian to support climate change studies. During 2007 systems were successfully delivered in China, Mongolia and Iraq.
Ice Monitoring for offshore operations
eOsphere can provide a complete offshore ice information service; including data planning and acquisition from satellites and ancillary sources, the provision of analysis systems (software and hardware) to support offshore environmental monitoring, sea-ice analysis and ice forecasting, quality control and management and coordination.
Vexcel UK, now eOsphere, has specialised in sea ice monitoring since it was established in 2001. eOsphere has carried out historical studies of sea ice conditions to provide evidence in cases of litigation and to provide the basis for seasonal outlooks of ice conditions, where the past is assumed to provide a guide to the future.
Ground stations
The VxEos Ground System is eOsphere’s turnkey solution for EOS Terra and Aqua MODIS data reception ground system designed for users who want to receive and process data from EOS Terra and Aqua MODIS and the future planned NPP and NPOESS satellites.
Ice and foliage penetrating radar
eOsphere is leading research into low frequency radar techniques for exploration underneath ice and snow surfaces in the Antarctic and interplanetary space missions. It is also investigating tomography and polarimetric interferometry for target detection under forest canopies.
